FAQ

Everything You're
Wondering

If your question isn't here, ask us directly. Or call or text us: 774-619-8373 Text →

I’ve never trained before. Is that a problem? +

It’s the norm. Most people who walk through our doors have zero experience — that’s exactly who our Fundamentals program was built for. You’ll learn from step one at a pace designed for beginners, with training partners who remember being new.

How does the $29 intro class work? +

Reserve through the site, show up a few minutes early, and take a real class, not a sales pitch. The $29 is applied to your Foundations enrollment. Afterward, if you loved it, we’ll walk you through the Foundations Course and membership. No hard sell.

What is the Foundations Course? +

The required first program for every new student: six weeks of fundamentals taught properly, with your gi included. The course is $299 with your gi included. A $99 reservation holds your seat and is applied to the course total. Cohorts are capped at 20 seats, and the first begins the week of September 1. Complete Foundations and you’ll move straight into full membership. Details at bttbridgewater.com/foundations.

What should I wear or bring to my first class? +

Comfortable athletic clothes (t-shirt and shorts or leggings) and a water bottle. No gi needed for your intro class — if you try a Gi class, we’ll set you up with a loaner.

Do I need to be in shape to start? +

No. You get in shape by training — nobody arrives ready. Classes scale to your level, and you control your own pace. Showing up is the only requirement.

What ages are the kids classes? +

Kids classes run in three groups: ages 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Teens 14 and up train in adult classes. Not sure where your child fits? Call or text us at 774-619-8373 and we’ll point you to the right class.

Is BJJ safe? Will I get hurt? +

Jiu-Jitsu is a contact sport and carries inherent risk, like any sport — we won’t pretend otherwise. What we control is the environment: qualified instruction, mats cleaned daily, beginners kept out of live sparring until they’re ready, and a strict no-ego culture. Tapping early and training smart are taught from day one.

Do you require contracts? +

Memberships are month to month. No initiation fees, no hidden charges.

Is sparring mandatory for beginners? +

No. Live training is introduced gradually and only when you’re ready. Beginners drill technique with cooperative partners first — nobody is thrown into the deep end.

Where do I park? +

We’re inside the Bridgewater Fitness building at 620 Bedford Street. Park in the main lot and use the main entrance, you’ll see us.
